Still Hill Brewery Featured on FOX 61

ROCKY HILL — It started with a passion for beer.

“I started home brewing, probably about 11 years ago.  I started to get decent at it and friends and family started telling me I should open a brewery,” said Scott Barbanel, founder of Still Hill Brewery.

After years of telling them they were crazy, Scott Barbanel thought they were on to something.  He went through training, got a degree in brewing and started Still Hill Brewery in Rocky Hill about two and half years ago.

“We brew a wide range of beers, so we don’t specialize on any one style.  I like all different beers.  It depends on my mood,” said Barbanel.

The names on the wall show what’s on tap and the beers are as unique as the names.  Sluggy Buggy was created after Barbanel’s son came up with the idea.

“The inspiration can come from anywhere.  It can come from me being out at a restaurant or bar and having a beer I really like, and I want to come back and make that style, or customers or my sales staff or my people that work there,” said Barbanel. Read More

A Brother’s Guide: The New Barn At Still Hill

Thanks to A Brother’s Guide to Connecticut Breweries for the fabulous review.  We thank you!!

Scott Barbanel, the HIMG_1959ead Brewer and Founder of Still Hill Brewery has always been interested in making beer. After receiving a home brewing kit for Father’s Day seven years ago, Barbanel has infused his entrepreneurial drive with a passion for making great beer to create a brewery that manages to set itself apart, while staying completely familiar at the same time.

Just walk into the Still Hill Tap Room and try not to feel at home. From the outside, you might have an idea of what you’re about to walk into. But once you’re sitting down with a flight of delectable brews in front of you, it feels like you’ve been transported somewhere else. The cavernous space has been designed to look like the inside of a barn, and it succeeds. We decided to dismount, and drink till the cows came home.

Still Hill has three selections that are “year round” offerings; Still Hill IPARed Storm Ryesing, and Still Hill APA. If you decide to visit (and after this review, I’m sure you will!) then you might encounter a few seasonal offerings, more on those in a minute.

By Innovation Destination: Hartford

Still_Hill_group3-768x576Scott Barbanel, Head Brewer and Founder of Still Hill Brewery, has always had an entrepreneurial drive. He got the passion for home brewing about seven years ago after brewing on a home kit he received as a Father’s Day gift. The combination is paying off. The brewery opened its doors in early February as the first microbrewery in Rocky Hill, CT. Barbanel told Innovation Destination Hartford about the brewery’s future plans and offered advice entrepreneurs who are starting out.

IDH: Give us some background—did you always have an entrepreneurial drive?

BARBANEL: My business back ground is Accounting, Information Technology and Human Relations. I’m currently the controller of a small manufacturer/distributor in Westfield, MA as well as working here at Still Hill Brewery.

ROCKY HILL >> The blank white walls of the Still Hill Brewery inspired a large-scale mural by Hartford artist Tao LaBossiere.

Asked to design a company logo, LaBossiere, a former Cromwell resident, successfully pitched a more extensive use after seeing the space. After 20 hours of labor, he completed the design that is now seen large-scale as a 16-by-43-foot mural.

Transformed by the magic of trompe l’oeil painting, the white space now has become the inside of an old barn with post-and-beam architecture, plank walls, brown bottles and antique signs.  Continue reading at The Middletown Press site

Grand Opening a Great Success

With Cheers And Beers, Another Microbrewery Opens

By the Hartford Courant

ribbon-cuttingROCKY HILL — The taps opened, the suds flowed and members of the “Brew Crew” scrambled behind the bar to keep glasses and mugs filled for the craft beer enthusiasts, well-wishers, dignitaries and the simply curious who turned out for Thursday’s grand opening of Still Hill Brewery, Rocky Hill’s first microbrewery.

Standing near a table of chicken wings and veggie platters, head brewer and founder of Still Hill Brewery LLC Scott Barbanel, full mug in hand, looked out at the bustling taproom scene, beaming like a proud new father.

“The turnout is great. I’m hoping they’re enjoying the beer,” he said. “Everything is new, new supplies, new taps. It all seems to be working well.” Continue reading at the Hartford Courant site

Still Hill Brewery & TapRoom Grand Opening to take place Thursday, Feb 4

Still Hill Brewery’s local craft brews will be available on site
and  locally in restaurants and bars.
Still Hill Brewery is excited to announce its Grand Opening on Thursday February 4, 2016. The event will run  from 2:00 to 8:00 PM. A 2:00 PM Ribbon Cutting ceremony is scheduled by Rocky Hill Mayor, Claudia Baio. Additional dignitaries, Chamber of Commerce members, Still Hill investors, fans and friends will be present. A tour of the Brewhouse and Taproom will follow with refreshments.

Still Hill Brewery’s 4,200 square foot business is opening at the Shunpike Business Center in Rocky Hill, CT. The company will distribute craft brews to local bars and restaurants as well as pour pints and growlers in its adjoining Taproom.

“We invite people into our Taproom to take a tour, and to get to know us and our beer.” said Scott Barbanel, head brewer and founder of Still Hill Brewery.   The Taproom, open on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons to start with, is the perfect place to try the beers Barbanel will craft. Three staple beers will initially be produced:  Still Hill IPA, Red Storm Ryesing Amber Ale, and Still Hill APA (American Pale Ale) with plans to rotate seasonal beers, as well as experimental styles.

Barbanel is realizing his dream by opening a production brewery. “It’s been an odyssey from using my first homebrewers kit I received from my kids on Father’s Day 7 years ago, to becoming a professional brewer, to finding the perfect location in Rocky Hill, to recently completing construction of the Brewhouse and Taproom.” said Barbanel. “We want to make the best craft beers possible and be a vibrant part of the Rocky Hill community.”

Grand Opening on February 4th at 2:00 pm

We began brew house operations on January 9th. Our inaugural batch was our winter seasonal, Sluggy Buggy, our Oatmeal Stout. As I sit here I am getting ready to knock out our second batch, our year round APA. Yes, we’re crazy and doubled batched on our first brew day. We can thank Badger Colish, our consultant with DME, our equipment manufacturer, for this lunacy! With out his help I would never have been able to accomplish the suicidal attempt of double batching on day 1!

We undertook this craziness so we could open our Tap Room on February 4th. Yep, I said it, its official! We’ll open our Tap Room doors on Thursday Feb 4 at 2 pm where we’ll have a Ribbon Cutting ceremony. We will then be open for our normal hours on Friday evenings 4 to 8 and Saturday afternoons noon to 6.

ADMIN Note – Current Hours are:
Thursday and Friday, 4:00 – 8:00 PM
Saturday and Sunday 12:00 – 6:00 PM

Our IPA is hit the fermenters on 1/10 and our Red Storm Ryesing on 1/16.

We look forward to seeing everyone next month!
