Tucked away in an industrial/business complex in Rocky Hill is true hidden gem: Still Hill Brewery, a microbrewery and tap room that opened just over a year ago.
I was really impressed with Still Hill Brewery’s attention to detail with its decor. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but you’d think you walked into a beautiful rustic space dedicated to the production and consumption of beer. There’s a mural (pictured above) and burlap accents throughout the tasting room. The staff at Still Hill Brewery certainly made the most of their space and utilized someone’s (or a few someone’s) artistic talents to make it feel less like a warehouse and more like a brew pub.
While the decor and aesthetics were lovely, my purpose at Still Hill Brewery was, of course, to taste the beer. Read More Here.
To quote Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, “Valhalla, I am coming!”
This vanilla-flavored, Norse mythology-inspired, high-alcohol-content (8 percent) and intensely flavorful porter is the perfect drink for the winter months. Conditioned on vanilla beans, the beer has a dark velvet flavor, accentuated by strong, but not overpowering, vanilla notes. Imperial porters generally have more alcohol than regular porters, which usually lack the intense roasted flavor of an imperial stout. This drink fits that mold, but the vanilla flavors make it stand apart from other examples of the same style.
The beer is only seasonably available, and although it is distributed on a limited basis around the Rocky Hill area, the best chance one has of trying it is by visiting the brewery itself. Still Hill Brewery celebrates its one-year anniversary this month. It has a beautiful tap room; a large, rustic mural painted by Hartford artist Tao LaBossiere dominates the walls. Read More Here.
“Beer of the week: Vanhilla – Still Hill” Another great review from “A Brother’s Guide“. Again, we thank you!!
“At Still Hill Brewery in Rocky Hill there is something dangerously delicious brewing. Deep, rich, and dripping with vanilla notes, VanHilla, an Imperial Porter is an absolute knock out on the CT craft brew circuit.”
“…On top of all this, Still Hill tapped a cask of VanHilla with a secret ingredient on Saturday (November 26th). So, those of you in the area should definitely make the trip down to the brewery to sample one of the best Imperial Porter’s in the state, and see it take on a brand new (and mysterious) twist. The cask will only flow until supplies last so the time is now.
If you enjoy getting your hands on a beer that your friends will be envious of, we suggest you get down to Still Hill’s taproom and get a pint of VanHilla while it’s on tap. Take it from us, this one doesn’t stick around for long.”
