By the Hartford Courant

ribbon-cuttingROCKY HILL — The taps opened, the suds flowed and members of the “Brew Crew” scrambled behind the bar to keep glasses and mugs filled for the craft beer enthusiasts, well-wishers, dignitaries and the simply curious who turned out for Thursday’s grand opening of Still Hill Brewery, Rocky Hill’s first microbrewery.

Standing near a table of chicken wings and veggie platters, head brewer and founder of Still Hill Brewery LLC Scott Barbanel, full mug in hand, looked out at the bustling taproom scene, beaming like a proud new father.

“The turnout is great. I’m hoping they’re enjoying the beer,” he said. “Everything is new, new supplies, new taps. It all seems to be working well.” Continue reading at the Hartford Courant site

Still Hill Brewery & TapRoom Grand Opening to take place Thursday, Feb 4

Still Hill Brewery’s local craft brews will be available on site
and  locally in restaurants and bars.
Still Hill Brewery is excited to announce its Grand Opening on Thursday February 4, 2016. The event will run  from 2:00 to 8:00 PM. A 2:00 PM Ribbon Cutting ceremony is scheduled by Rocky Hill Mayor, Claudia Baio. Additional dignitaries, Chamber of Commerce members, Still Hill investors, fans and friends will be present. A tour of the Brewhouse and Taproom will follow with refreshments.

Still Hill Brewery’s 4,200 square foot business is opening at the Shunpike Business Center in Rocky Hill, CT. The company will distribute craft brews to local bars and restaurants as well as pour pints and growlers in its adjoining Taproom.

“We invite people into our Taproom to take a tour, and to get to know us and our beer.” said Scott Barbanel, head brewer and founder of Still Hill Brewery.   The Taproom, open on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons to start with, is the perfect place to try the beers Barbanel will craft. Three staple beers will initially be produced:  Still Hill IPA, Red Storm Ryesing Amber Ale, and Still Hill APA (American Pale Ale) with plans to rotate seasonal beers, as well as experimental styles.

Barbanel is realizing his dream by opening a production brewery. “It’s been an odyssey from using my first homebrewers kit I received from my kids on Father’s Day 7 years ago, to becoming a professional brewer, to finding the perfect location in Rocky Hill, to recently completing construction of the Brewhouse and Taproom.” said Barbanel. “We want to make the best craft beers possible and be a vibrant part of the Rocky Hill community.”

Grand Opening on February 4th at 2:00 pm

We began brew house operations on January 9th. Our inaugural batch was our winter seasonal, Sluggy Buggy, our Oatmeal Stout. As I sit here I am getting ready to knock out our second batch, our year round APA. Yes, we’re crazy and doubled batched on our first brew day. We can thank Badger Colish, our consultant with DME, our equipment manufacturer, for this lunacy! With out his help I would never have been able to accomplish the suicidal attempt of double batching on day 1!

We undertook this craziness so we could open our Tap Room on February 4th. Yep, I said it, its official! We’ll open our Tap Room doors on Thursday Feb 4 at 2 pm where we’ll have a Ribbon Cutting ceremony. We will then be open for our normal hours on Friday evenings 4 to 8 and Saturday afternoons noon to 6.

ADMIN Note – Current Hours are:
Thursday and Friday, 4:00 – 8:00 PM
Saturday and Sunday 12:00 – 6:00 PM

Our IPA is hit the fermenters on 1/10 and our Red Storm Ryesing on 1/16.

We look forward to seeing everyone next month!

Still Hill Brewery pours beer at CT Landmark’s “Dinner at the Homestead”

Still Hill Brewery Landmark pour - 2OStill Hill Brewery Landmark Pourn Saturday Evening, 9/6, we had the distinct pleasure of pouring 3 of our beers at CT Landmarks “Dinner at the Homestead” event. The event took place under a tent at the Nathan Hale Homestead and mother nature cooperated and left us free of thunderstorms. It was an evening of great farm to table food prepared by Max Restaurant Group, beer by Still Hill and cocktails by CT’s own Onyx Moonshine. Thank you to the great folks at Connecticut Landmarks and to all the people that stopped by to enjoy our beer and chat about the Brewery!!! A special thanks to our good friend Honza Perlik for creating our jockey box cover, we received a lot of compliments on it!

Scott pouring Red Storm Ryesing

On Saturday, November 30th, some of the Still Hill crew hopped on a bus with 36 or so other intrepid Craft Beer lovers for the CT Beer Trails first Annual Turkey Tour.  It was a great day touring around and visiting Back East Brewing Co., The Cambridge House Brew Pub, Broad Brook Brewing, Thomas Hooker Brewing and Olde Burnside Brewing.

What completed the day for the Still Hill gang was pouring our Red Storm Ryesing, an  American Amber ale, on the bus.  We hope everyone enjoyed the tasting!  By the way, buses make for great captive audiences!

First Public Tasting!

first_official_still_hill_pourSome exciting news.  We’ll be pouring our “Nut on the Hill” Brown Ale for the folks on the CTBeerTrail Brewery bus tour tomorrow!   We’ll be providing samples of our beer during the lunch stop at The Barley Vine in Bristol.  If you’re in the area stop by the Barley Vine and say hi.  I won’t be pouring long but I’m sure you can find something you’ll like at the Barley Vine or at our friends down the road at Firefly Hollow Brewery!
