Jake Kulak & the LowDown @ Still Hill Brewery
Aug 26 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Jake Kulak and the LowDown are honored to be nominated for a New England Music Award in the “New Act of the Year” Category.  Nominees are chosen by a panel of music industry professionals and represent New England artists from various genres in popular music.
Jake Kulak is a 17 year old musician from Connecticut who plays blues and jazz guitar, along with classical piano. He started playing guitar when he was 11 years old. He received a Fender Squire as a Christmas present and immediately taught himself to play Screwdriver by the White Stripes. That song is a perfect example of how one guitar can express so much emotion. He then heard the White Stripes cover Death Letter and that led him to the music of Son House and other blues greats like Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, and BB King. The blues is at the heart of so many other types of music. He says, “When I play the blues, I play what I feel – not just the notes in front of me”. Today, he studies guitar with Frank Varela at Summit Studios

Orb Mellon @ Still Hill Brewery
Sep 8 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Orb Mellon Black and White dec 2013Orb Mellon is the blues moniker of Mike Malone, founder and guitarist of the seminal 1990s indie rock band and Sony/Epic recording artists Dirt Merchants.

Orb MellonOrb Mellon’s blues mines the raw energy of 20th Century American roots music, particularly whiskey fueled house party delta blues. Influenced by the likes of Bukka White and Junior Kimbrough, Orb Mellon  performs pure, sonically aggressive original blues, free from any quaintness or historicism, prompting one early reviewer to identify Orb Mellon’s work simply as “blues in all its primeval glory.”  He has performed extensively around the eastern United States sharing the stage with such diverse acts as David Johansen (NY Dolls), Daddy Long Legs and Charlie Parr in addition to being a long time touring partner of Brownbird Rudy Relic.  In 2015, Orb Mellon BWthe Orb Mellon Trio was formed with harpmaster Dave “Kosher Kid” Robbins and drummer Mark Hennessy.

Orb Mellon has released 3 full length albums as well as 3 EPs and his work has been featured in regional, national and international press.  His music has been included in feature films and television.  His songs “Long Way Home”, “What I’m Gonna Do with You” (both from his album Love Above) and “Gonna Find It” (from his album Moan) were featured in seasons 3 and 4 of the FX network hit crime drama “Justified” and in the feature film “Kill For Me.” “Aberdeen” (from Love Above) was included in the 2012 season of the HBO drama “True Blood.” Most recently, his song “Born A Long Time Ago” (from his album Love & Violence) was included in two episodes of the 2015 season of the CBS / Spielberg produced Sci-Fi drama “Extant” staring Oscar winner Halle Berry.

Podunk Throwbacks @ Still Hill Brewery
Sep 17 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

The Podunk Throwbacks are a “throwback” to a time when songwriters did not “lure” listeners with familiar covers and slip their own works in between, but believed in their songs enough to allow them to stand on their own….& that’s exactly what they do. Their music combines lyrics of life experience with a diverse & energetic sampling of different musical styles, providing a little something for everyone to relate to. Together, the Podunk Throwbacks take front-man & songwriter, Todd Skilton’s musical perceptions of life and “throw them back” with a unique sound, no “gimmicks” or formulation & an energy that keeps the audience engaged.

The Podunk Throwbacks started as a duo in 2012, and have evolved into a 5-piece band over the years. They have taken their 3 hours of originals from coffeeshops and hardware stores to the Goshen Stampede, the Elm City Folk Festival &most recently, the Podunk Bluegrass Festival Acoustic stage. They have performed in venues all over CT, MA, NY & RI, & are currently working on their first cd.

What some folks are saying:

“The Podunk Throwbacks are an artistic force to reckoned with. Heartfelt • savvy • so artistic ; their music is perfect for any event. Their somber yet energetic sounds floated up MainStreet, Water St., Franklin Street and around the corner to E. Main Catch them at O’Connors and all points beyond. If they’re not overbooked by August, they’ll be back for arts walk again! We would be soooo lucky to welcome them back”

“MCC on Main: Urban StoryTellers Review No artistic event would be complete, however, without a bit of music, and the Podunk Throwbacks were happy to oblige. A lively acoustic trio, the Podunk Throwbacks consist of Todd Skilton on guitar and vocals, Amy Jones on violin, and Chris Morales on various hand percussion instruments. They brought the evening together perfectly with an upbeat set of original songs, all composed by Skilton, and all with a fresh sound not often heard in the mass-produced, pre-packaged, over-electronic cookie cutter music spewed out by the modern music industry. Though they are, at times, reminiscent of many acoustic rock groups through the ages, the honesty and rarity of their sound made for a nice breath of fresh air and fit in flawlessly with the creativity and flow of the other performers of the evening.”

B&E @ Still Hill Brewery
Sep 23 @ 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Come see B&E take our acoustic set back down to the Still Hill Brewery. Great tunes, phenomenal brews, and great people, you gotta be there!!!!

Hailing from Manchester, Ct, B&E are a new acoustic duo that will be shaking things up a bit here on the music scene in New England. Performing as one half of the Mighty

Magnesium Jake, Brian and Eric got a good 12 years of experience playing professionally all over New England. The idea was simple, play great music that people want to hear, but simply other bands do not play. That same philosophy now holds true for B&E acoustically.

Now as B&E, the boys are taking what they learned and performing in a much more intimate setting for the audience. You’ll see them playing anything from Tom Petty and the Beatles, to the Foo Fighters, and all points in between!

Bradford Loomis @ Still Hill Brewery
Oct 13 @ 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm

ad he lived one hundred and fifty years ago, Bradford Loomis may have been riding rail cars out west or sailing down the Mississippi on a paddle boat. Or maybe he would have claimed his stake in the flat lands of the Midwest. Perhaps he would have plied his hand on a ranch in Texas.

Born in the Northwest in more modern times, Bradford has lived to tell a different, but no less exciting, tale. Through years of choir, band and orchestra he discovered a powerful kinship to the songs and stories of those bygone eras as they helped show him a meaningful way to tell his story.

Bradford Loomis marries grit and melody to dig to the roots of American folklore and speak of the raw reality of the human condition with passion. His stories span several lifetimes of relatable emotions; bitterness & loss, deep longing & regret, enduring hope & love, elation & joy.

Over the years, Bradford has played with Ben Gibbard, Tyler Hilton (of One Tree Hill), Bonnie Bishop, Jamestown Revival, Penny and Sparrow, Allen Stone, Marc Broussard, Jospeph, Noah Gundersen, Kris Orlowski, Courtney Marie Andrews, Grace and Tony, Mark Pickerel (from the Screaming Trees), Damien Jurado, Vicci Martinez and Austin Jenkes (from the Voice) and many others.

He’s had the opportunity to play around the country in venues such as The Lincoln Performing Arts Center (NYC), Queen City Music Hall (Ft. Worth, TX) Kimbro’s Pickin Parlor (Nashville), Davidson College (NC), Potosi Maximun Security Correctional Center (MO), Hotel Cafe (L.A.) Tractor Tavern, The Triple Door, Crocodile Cafe (Seattle), Lawrence University (WI), Sears Tower (Chicago), Mile of Music Festival, University of Portland, wineries all over the United States and many others.

Upon learning recently that his father was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s disease, Bradford starting laying the ground work for this new project. Bravery and the Bell, (released March 24th 2017) is about legacy, both the lineage we are born into and that which we pass on. Whether burdened or buoyed by our generational inheritance, this album confronts the drudgery of simply surviving and sounds a call to stand up to the things that stand in the way of us truly passionately pursuing that which we were made to be.

Bradford’s influences include Chris Stapleton, the Swell Season, Johnny Cash T-Bone Burnett.
